ज्येष्ठ कम्प्युटरतज्ज्ञ डॉ. विजय भटकर यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली पुण्यातील प्रगत संगणन केंद्रात (सी-डॅक) देशातील पहिल्या सुपर कम्प्युटरची निर्मिती करण्यात आल्यानंतर &#8216;परम सुपर&#8217; कम्प्युटर विकसित करण्यात आला. आता एकविसाव्या शतकातील कम्प्युटिंगचे आव्हान पेलण्यासाठी &#8216;परम युवा २&#8217; हा अद्ययावत सुपर कम्प्युटर कार्यान्वित करण्यात आला आहे. तिसऱ्या जगातील अर्थात आशिया-आफ्रिकेतील कम्प्युटिंग क्षमता विकसित करण्यासाठी &#8216;सी-डॅक&#8217;तर्फे मोलाचा हातभार लावण्यात येतो. या पार्श्वभूमीवर आता विकसित देशांनाही &#8216;परम युवा २&#8217;च्या खुणावत आहे.<br />

अद्ययावत संशोधनासाठी कल्पनातीत वेगाने कम्प्युटिंग करण्याची गरज असते. त्यासाठीच सुपर कम्प्युटर वापरात आणले जातात. बायोइन्फोर्मेटिक्स, कम्प्युटर एडेड इंजिनीअरिंग, इव्होल्युशनरी कम्प्युटिंग, कम्प्युटेशन आणि अर्थ सायन्सेस यांसारख्या क्षेत्रांत &#8216;परम युवा २&#8217; प्रगत देशांचे मैदान गाजवत आहे. केवळ चारच महिन्यांत त्याच्या क्षमतेचा ७० टक्के वापर होऊ लागला आहे. अमेरिकेतील &#8216;ऑरगॅनिक हेल्थ अँड सायन्स युनिव्हर्सिटी&#8217;, ब्रिटनमधील &#8216;बायोटेक्नॉलॉजी अँड बायोलॉजिकल सायन्सेस रिसर्च कौन्सिल&#8217; &#8216;परम युवा २&#8217;चा वापर करीत आहेत.<br />
